№ 01Overview

Living in Union

Union Township, commonly just called Union, is a residential community in central Union County. Its tree-lined neighborhoods, established housing stock and highway access make it a popular choice for buyers moving up from apartments or relocating within North Jersey.

The township is home to Kean University and has a long history: the Revolutionary War Battle of Connecticut Farms was fought here in 1780.

№ 02Lifestyle

Neighborhoods & daily life

Daily life centers on distinct neighborhoods and the commercial districts along Morris Avenue, Stuyvesant Avenue and Route 22.

Galloping Hill Park, part of the Union County park system, includes a public golf course and open space shared with neighboring Kenilworth.

  • Connecticut Farms: The township's historic heart, around the Connecticut Farms church and the Caldwell Parsonage.
  • Vauxhall: A long-established neighborhood on Union's northern side, bordering Maplewood and Millburn.
  • Townley & Five Points: Residential sections with easy access to local shopping and the Garden State Parkway.
  • Putnam Manor: Mid-century residential streets with a mix of colonials, capes and split-levels.

№ 03Housing

The housing market

Union's housing is primarily detached single-family homes, many of them colonials, cape cods and split-levels built in the twentieth century. It also has townhomes, condominiums and some multi-family properties.

Age and condition vary widely, so a thorough home inspection and clear disclosures matter as much as list price.

For current pricing and recent sales in a specific neighborhood, ask us for a personalized market review.

№ 04Getting around

Transportation & commuting

  • NJ TRANSIT's Union station, on the Raritan Valley Line, sits beside the Kean University campus. Service connects to Newark Penn Station, with connections to New York.
  • The Garden State Parkway, U.S. Route 22, Route 82 and nearby I-78 give drivers direct routes across North Jersey.

Schools

Public schools are operated by Union Public Schools. Confirm school assignments for any specific address directly with the district.

№ 05Buying

Buying a home in Union

  • Older homes are common, so budget time and money for inspections, including sewer-line and oil-tank checks where appropriate.
  • Know your commute priorities: the Raritan Valley Line, the Parkway and Route 22 serve different parts of town.
  • Ask us about property tax research for specific homes. New Jersey property taxes are significant and vary by assessment.

№ 06Selling

Selling a home in Union

  • We price from recent, comparable sales in your section of the township, adjusting for updates and condition.
  • Plan for New Jersey's smoke alarm, carbon monoxide alarm and fire extinguisher certificate, plus any township resale inspection. Starting early keeps your closing date on track.
  • Presentation matters in a market of similar homes. We advise on preparation, staging and photography before you list.
